VIVANT Foundation turned over more than P700,000 worth of electrical installation and maintenance (EIM) solar equipment and tools to Cordova National High School (CNHS) in Barangay Day-as, Cordova, Cebu on March 8, 2021.
Since 2018, Vivant has been helping senior high schools through Project Liadlaw, a component of which involves updating the EIM Tech-Voc curriculum by including solar technology, donating equipment and tools and teachers’ training.
“Our programs give emphasis on education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to help the youth and their future,” Vivant Corp. senior vice president Jess Garcia said in his speech.
The donation will benefit 85 Grade 11 and 93 Grade 12 EIM students of CNHS. Last year, 29 students passed the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority National Certification II assessment for EIM.
According to Dr. Marilyn S. Andales, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Cebu Province, the division is processing the requirements for CNHS to be an assessment center. With the increasing interest in EIM, the school is expecting more enrollees in the coming school year, including those in the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho, who attended the turnover, described the project as a good example of private-public partnership.
“The best way to help our community is to help our schools. When you help the public school system, you are helping the community. Education has and always will be our primary focus,” Vivant Foundation executive director Shem Jose Garcia said. “We’re really looking forward to the day that students can safely come back to get their hands on it and see the success in this school that we’ve seen in this program in other schools.”
Vivant Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Vivant Corp., a publicly listed holding company with investments in power generation, distribution and retail electricity services.
